GROUPS
GROUPS are loosely structured according to their taxonomic classification.
Within each group species are presented alphabetically.
The following status terms are used:
- HOLOTYPE A single specimen selected in order to show the main character of a species
- PARATYPE Additional specimens selected with a holotype to show additional character of a species not shown by the holotype
- SYNTYPES A series of type specimens of equal status selected to show the range of variation within a species
- LECTOTYPE Where the type of a species has not been nominated in the past, a lectotype may be designated from the range of originally described material if it is still available. Lecto can be used as a prefix with the first three in the list
- NEOTYPE A specimen or range of specimens chosen from available material when the original type material has been lost or destroyed. A neotype may be a cast of the original. Neo can be used as a prefix with the first three in the list
- TOPOTYPE Any specimen collected from the locality from which the type specimens were obtained
