This combined catalogue was produced as part of the 2000/ 2001 N.E. Dinosaur Coast Project*. It is a combined catalogue for both Scarborough and Whitby Museums.

* The Project partners are Scarborough Museums, Whitby Museum, The North York Moors National Park and the Yorkshire Museums Council. The project was supported by monies from the European Community supported by matched funding from the partners.

GROUPS
GROUPS are loosely structured according to their taxonomic classification. Within each group species are presented alphabetically.

• HOLOTYPE A single specimen selected in order to show the main character of a species.
• PARATYPE Additional specimens selected with a holotype to show additional character of a species not shown by the holotype.
• SYNTYPES A series of type specimens of equal status selected to show the range of variation within a species.
• LECTOTYPE Where the type of a species has not been nominated in the past, a lectotype may be designated from the range of originally described material if it is still available. Lecto can be used as a prefix with the first three in the list.
• NEOTYPE A specimen or range of specimens chosen from available material when the original type material has been lost or destroyed. A neotype may be a cast of the original. Neo can be used as a prefix with the first three in the list.
• TOPOTYPE Any specimen collected from the locality from which the type specimens were obtained.

NUMBER
Fossils located at Scarborough Woodend Museum have numbers prefixed by SCAWM and those at Whitby Museum by WHITM. The collection number follows.

HORIZON
This is the stratigraphy relating to the specimen and is given in as much detail as available in the order lithostratigraphy, biostratigraphy, chronostratigraphy.

Given in as much detail as it is known
